NORTHERN COLORADO FINGERPRINTING
PAPER FINGERPRINT CARDS (FD-258, SF-87, etc)

Your fingerprints will be rolled onto a fingerprint card that you take with you at the end of your appointment. You may bring a fingerprint card that has been provided to you, or we provide form FD-258 (with the Privacy Act Statement). This can be used for most states in the U.S. (if you are an out-of-state applicant), the FBI & other federal agencies, or a foreign passport application.

Fingerprint Cards
We can provide FD-258 fingerprint cards with the Privacy Act Statement if needed. This is the standard FBI fingerprint card most states accept. We can also print on any fingerprint card you have been provided.

What ID's are acceptable?
ANY
current, valid government issued photo ID from ANY state or country. This includes driver's license, passport (U.S. or from another country), or passport card. For customers 18 years old or younger a photo school ID is acceptable.

Why do I need to mail a fingerprint card to the FBI or another state; can't my fingerprints be submitted electronically?
Though it seems like we live in an age where all things should be digitized and sent electronically, as with many things, it is not that simple when it comes to fingerprinting. Most states only accept electronic submissions of fingerprints via approved vendors from within their state. Even today, most fingerprinting required for another state different from where you reside must be sent via the mail. This is also true for fingerprinting required by many federal agencies. There are a limited number of vendors approved to submit fingerprints electronically to the FBI and only a few states allow electronic transmission from another state.

How long does it take to get the results?
Out-of-State and Federal processing times can vary by agency. The time of the year and state of the economy also impacts the processing time.

What is the difference between fingerprinting and a background check?
If your employer or state agency has requested that you get fingerprinted, it is likely because a fingerprint based background check is required. Fingerprinting is just the first step of the background check. Your fingerprints will be submitted to a state or federal agency to be checked against arrest records.
